I am a Nursing Simulation Technician at Middle Georgia State University (MGA) with a background in Information Technology and tutoring. I have a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, with concentrations in Networking and Information Security, and a Master of Science in Information Technology, with a concentration in Digital Forensics. I have been with MGA since 2017 when I was hired as an Academic Support Specialist. In my former role, I assisted the Student Success Center (SSC) Coordinator in daily operations of the SSC and provided tutoring in my area of expertise.
In 2023, I transitioned into the role of Academic Success Coach. As an Academic Success Coach, I primarily performed student outreach to targeted populations such as probation, learning support, and early alert students. During Academic Success Coaching sessions, which are tailored to the individual student, I acted as a life coach for students, provided tips and strategies relating to academic performance, and helped students learn and develop transferable academic skills. I also helped plan and conduct academic workshops and panel discussions and assisted with expos and other events.
As a Nursing Simulation Technician, my duties include setting up simulation labs, programming nursing simulators, setting up audio/visual equipment for live-streaming, assisting with simulation labs, tracking and maintaining inventory of simulators, task trainers, equipment, and supplies, and performing troubleshooting and maintenance. Additionally, I provide simulator and audio/visual equipment training for faculty.
Beyond my specific job duties at Middle Georgia State University, I often assist faculty and staff members throughout the MGA community. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I assisted The Writing Center in transitioning from face-to-face tutoring to fully online tutoring. I built out an online schedule and provided remote training for The Writing Center staff and consultants as well as ongoing support with schedule updates, new staff training, and technology issues. I provided similar training and support for the Math Academic Resource Center staff. Post-COVID, I was in on the ground floor of the Student Success Center's embedded tutoring program and was embedded in numerous classes with several different professors. I also regularly volunteer at our commencement ceremonies where I scan tickets and direct graduates and guests to their respective locations.
